The silver economy<\/strong>, understood as all economic activities linked to older age groups, presents a huge business opportunity in all areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The model has emerged in response to increased life expectancy, coupled with an improvement in the living conditions of the population and their economic capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, the silver economy also implies recognition of the role of older people as consumers, which means a potential for new types of products and services.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ageing of the population is about to become one of the most significant social transformations of the 21st century. This market, which will represent a quarter of the population in Spain \u2013 and more than a third of the population by 2050 \u2013 requires a major review of its offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Silver economy: the senior market as a business opportunity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The socio-economic offering specifically geared towards the senior citizen sector continues to grow and is on investors' radar.<\/strong> Among the most promising sectors are, on the one hand, products and services related to leisure and active ageing, and on the other, those linked to health and social care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One segment that is of particular interest to investment capital is residential homes for the elderly.<\/strong> The decline in birth rates and the gradual end of the preference for ageing at home are factors that highlight the potential interest in this type of alternative asset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The holiday resorts<\/strong> designed exclusively for this segment of the population are also assets that are whetting investors' appetites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, the senior co-housing<\/strong><\/a> offer an alternative to traditional nursing homes or living at home. A format with communal living areas and specific services for the elderly, such as nursing, hairdressing and laundry, which evolves and adapts to the needs of older people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the financial sector has been working for years with products designed for the elderly, such as pension plans and reverse mortgages, it has great opportunities ahead in bridging the digital divide and improving access to banking services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Telemedicine, continuing education, smart homes, personal transport, sports and fashion are areas with great potential for developing businesses associated with senior citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is still a long way to go before many sectors adapt and design silver products and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Basque province promotes the development of specific economic activities aimed at meeting the needs and motivations of older people, as well as those of their families and carers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tax changes approved in December 2021 are aimed at \u201cdeductions for investment in micro, small or medium-sized enterprises that are new or recently created, innovative or linked to the silver economy, in accordance with Article 90.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This demonstrates the desire to promote economic projects related to this segment of the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
